William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, lived in Macroom Castle with its turrets and imposing gateway leading off the square. The town has numerous restaurants and pubs. There is a theatre in the town which holds both drama and cinema entertainment. There is also an 18 hole Golf Course.
