''Scraggs Alley', a name well documented in Carlow's history journals since the early 18th century, is by definition today, one of Ireland’s most prominent food, drink and entertainment venues. A real 'left bank' split on the floor tavern the appeal of Scraggs Alley is such that people from all walks of life - young, old, trendy and conservative congregate here and mingle in social harmony.
The design of the premises with split level flooring lends itself to a series of separate drinking areas, each one attracting a particular clientele.
A host of nooks and crannies offer intimacy if desired. Seasoned timbers on the floors and ceilings, rustic brickwork, church pews, and warm open fires are in keeping with the nostalgic solidity of yesteryear. Mirrored snob divides, vintage point of sale merchandise and dated bric a brac are further reminders of a bygone era.
The dedicated gourmet will be delighted with the 'Bill of Fare' at Scraggs Alley which is designed to suit most pockets and palates.
An extensive menu is available in the bar where each dish enjoys par-excellence in preparation and presentation. The upstairs restaurant has specialist dishes served in a slightly more formal atmosphere rich in old-world elegance.
The late night bar and restaurant offers an extravaganza of good food, drinks and music, in a setting which combines a subtle mix of traditional charm with a state of the arts sound and lighting system.
Scraggs Alley is an exciting, vibrant establishment with a constant buzz - jamming, rock and traditional sessions are common place. Service is prompt, professional and courteous.
This pub has an eclectic atmosphere that has to be witnessed - it comes from researching the demands of today’s discerning public and meeting them. Guaranteed to impress the connoisseur of the authentic.
