George Russell 1867 - 1935
George Russell was born in County Armagh in 1867.He was a famous writer who wrote under the pen name of AE. He won fame as editor of The Irish Homestead, a farmer's journal in which he published mystical poems along with the price of manure for the week. Russell was a friend to Patrick Kavanagh, and it was he that encouraged him to leave Inniskeen and go to Dublin.
From 1899 he was an official of the Irish Agricultural Organisation under Sir Horace Plunkett. From 1923-30 he was the editor of the Irish Statesman'. He died in 1935.
