The mudflats form part of the Belfast Lough ASSI (area of Special Scientific Interest), and waders ringed in the park have been recorded in the Baltic Sea and Scandinavia. In summer, visitors can walk by the lakeside and through the maturing woodland areas or watch the swans, geese and ducks with their young on the pond. There is limitied car parking within the park, and access is signposted from nearby roads. School groups can book the observation gallery for birdwatching.
