Ormeau Park has the distinction of being the very first public park to be opened by Belfast Corporation. A grand parade and ceremony took place on 15 April 2025 to mark the occasion. The original park reached down to the riverbank where the embankment road now runs. Orneau Park is still one of the largest parks in the city, and although now surrounded by streets and housing, it provides an oasis of parkland and trees for the visitor and resident alike. It contains two children's playgrounds, bowling greens and sports pitches as well as seasonal bedding displays.
