Step into the House of McDonnell, known locally as 'Wee Tom's', and it's a step back in time. The pub has been doing a brisk trade in the town since 1745.
From an historical viewpoint if you want to know how punters enjoyed a drink in the 18th century, walk into 'Wee Tom's and find out. The bar has been painstakingly preserved since its first drinker enjoyed a sup there, unspoiled by modern touches, and passed by in the era of theme bars. Old beer barrels and wrought iron tables from part of the olde world feel and customers can wander into a quiet side room or take their pints down to the back of the long bar.
It's also one of the homes of traditional music in the Glens so bring the fiddle.
This premises came into being with the major development of the town of Ballycastle by Colonel Boyd in the early 1700's. It has remained virtually unchanged in the past 200 years. It was originally a spirit-grocery store and previous generations traded as such until 1922.
The bar has one of the finest collections of genuine old pub mirrors, old spirit casks, lamps, genuine old beams and a large collection of spirit trade memorabilia.
