A 5 mile circular walk starting from the centre goes down to the Grand Causeway and along a narrow path past majestic amphitheatres and rock formations, with names like the Organ and the Harp, past Port na Spaniagh and Lacada Point where golf treasure from the wrecked Spanish Armada galleass, Girona was recovered by divers in 1968, and up a wooden staircase to Benbane Head, returning along the cliff top. A 2 mile circular walk is via the Sheperd's Path. A minibus shuttles between the visitor centre and the Grand Causeway. Returning to the carpark, you may notice an incongruous white washed Austrian Tyrolean church- a 1915 conceit by Clough Williams Ellis, architect of Portmeirion in Wales. A bronze relief of a girl asleep by a pitcher, at the top of the entrance steps, is by Rosamund Praeger. The louvred bell tower is not only eccentric rooftop round here: the profile of the visitor centre mimics the malt house roofs of the whiskey distillery at Bushmills 2 miles south of the Causeway.
