The stretch of water between Cong village downstream as far as Lough Corrib is known as the Cong River and this river is excellent for both brown trout and salmon. Where the Cong River flows past Ashford Castle is particularly good for salmon from late April and during the months of May and June. Dry fly fishing for trout over this same stretch is excellent during the summer months. Trout up to several pounds in weight are frequently caught in the Cong River.
