Crumlin River
The Crumlin River is a river of spate conditions and sea trout and a very few salmon run into it from the end of June onwards. The sea trout generally tend to be small but some fish up to four lbs in weight have been caught in the river.
Lough Ugga Beg
Lough Ugga Beg is immediately to the west of Crumlin Lodge and the road leading to the lodge runs beside the lough. It is very shallow, nonetheless sea trout tend to lie in this lough for longer periods than any of the other loughs in the system.
Lough Ugga More
Lough Ugga More is 100 yards to the east of Crumlin Lodge. Some sea trout run into this lough.
Lough Cloghernagan
Lough Cloghernagan is the next lough upstream from Lough Ugga More. It is primarily a brown trout fishery but occasionally sea trout run into it during the month of August. Access to this lough, and other loughs at the top of the Crumlin fishery is on foot over bog.
Lough Nambrackmore
This small lough ("the lake of the big trout") is on a small tributary of the river. Some sea trout run into this lough late in the season. The lough is also fished for brown trout.
The four uppermost loughs on the Crumlin Fishery are Lough Canagun, Lough Ergooa, Lough Crockaillenalee and Lough Tullynashey. Access is by walking upstream from Cloghernagun Lough. Lough Tullynashey, the farthest upstream of the loughs is some two miles from Cloghernagun. All of these loughs are brown trout fisheries, but some sea trout occasionally run into them. These loughs are accessible from the Costello/Oughterard road.
Lough Fadda
Logh Fadda is nearly one mile in length and only a few hundred yards wide. The lough is on a north/south axis and as a consequence of these factors it can be difficult to fish except in either a south or north wind. Access to the lough is by a side road north from Cartronlahan. Some sea trout run into Lough Fadda and the Lough holds quite a large stock of small brown trout.
Tullaghalaher Lough
This lough is not part of the Crumlin system itself. Tullaghalaher Lough is located alongside a bye road that leads from the Ballynahown/Spiddal road. It is just one mile in off the main road. The lough is a shallow and tends to become very weedy during the summer months. There is a stock of brown trout in the lough and can be fished frm the shore only.
