This section of the fishery, through which all fish entering the system have to pass, starts at the estuary and includes the Ballynahinch River and the Ballynahinch Lake Lower. There is a small run of spring salmon into this fishery in the months of April and Early May. Fishing for salmon is best from the middle of June onwards to the end of the season. The sea trout fishing commences on the river in the month of July and continues through to the end of the season. The river is divided into seven salmon beats and four sea trout pools each accommodating two rods per day. There are two boats for hire on the lake. These are mainly fly-fishing only waters but some spinning and the use of prawns are permitted at certain times on the river.
