The Derryhourraun River, just south of Clifden, drains Lough Phreaghaun, Derriwaking Lough, Croagat Lough, Island Lough and Derrylea Lough, before enering the Salt Lake, and then flowing into Ardbear Bay near Ballinaboy Bridge. This system holds a good stock of brown trout as well as sea trout from July onwards and also the occasional salmon. Bye Law No. 554: Prohibits fishing or attempting to fish by any means from or off the Weir Bridge across Salt Lake at Clifden, Co. Galway, or possession on the said bridge of any mounted fishing rod with line attached thereto.
