There are some 15 loughs in this area. The principal ones are, Tully Lough, Ballinakill Lough, Renvyle Lough, Aughrushbeg Lough and Lough Nahillion.
All of the loughs hold brown trout up to three quarters of a pound in weight but Aughrushbeg Lough has produced some fish of five pounds in weight. Lough Anilaun is the only lough in this area known to have a run of sea trout. Renvyle Lough is situated in the grounds of Renvyle House Hotel and permission must be obtained from the Hotel to fish this water.
Courhoor Lough, Aughrushbeg Lough and Barnahallie Lough are under the control of the Clifden anglers Association. Permission for the Hon. Secretary of the Association, Clifden, Co Galway.
The boundary dividing the Connemara and Ballinakill Fishery Districts runs through the Clifden/Roundstone area. This boundary is shown as a broken line on the map. Anlgers fishing in this area are advised to acquaint themselves with the licence requirements for fishing for salmon and sea trout.
