The Atlantic Ocean which bounds the Region for more than 150 miles provides some of the best Sea Angling in Ireland. The beautiful and rugged coast of West Clare and North Kerry offer an exciting back drop for a days Angling at Sea.

Sea Angling pressure is light and can be divided into three main categories: Deep Sea, Shore, and Esturine Fishing.

Deep Sea:

The Atlantic Ocean off the Coast of Co. Clare and North Kerry offer superb angling for a huge variety of sea fish species. These include Blue Shark, Pollock, Coalfish, Ray, Conger Whiting, Cod, Garfish, Gurnard, Tope and DogFish etc. There are a number of apporved and licenced charter boats at Kilrush and Doonbeg which offer a range of fishing including shark, reef, ground and shallow water "uptiding".

Shore Angling:

The Region's Coast line offers wonderful Shore Angling from easily accessible rocks and beaches from where a wide variety of sea fish species can be caught. Over 40 Shore Angling venues are available from Kerry Head in the South where excellent ballan Wrasse to 5 lbs can be taken, together with Mackerel, Pollock, Dog Fish, Bull Huss and Conger; while at Cappa Pier in the Estuary, Conger, DogFish, Whiting , Wrasse, Small Pollock, can be caught; to Liscannor Beach in the North produces bass and flounder. Anglers are advised to seek local information regarding safety as in some weather conditions certain venues can be hazardous.

Inshore Fishing:

The Shannon Estuary is an ideal location and fishable in most weather conditions and it offers great fishing for Tobe, Ray, Bull Husk, dogfish and Conger. Anglers with their own small boats will have little difficulty in finding access to the water as there are a number of slipways available.

Bait and tackle are easily obtained for all types of Sea Angling together with large and small boat hire and tackle hire."
