Welcome to North Clare Sea Angling

North Clare enjoys an excellent reputation for its shore angling, particularly the rock fishing from the numerous limestone ledges. Species include ray, bull huss and conger to double figures. Occasional porbeagle shark have also been landed. This rocky coastline is interspersed with west facing storm beaches from which flatfish, bass and ray are taken.

Deep sea angling is also popular from Ballyvaughan for blue and porbeagle shark as well as tope. There is also excellent general bottom fishing over a wide range of ground which can produce up to eighteen different species in a day. The Aran Islands offer an excellent base for anglers on a week charter. From there boats can fish in very deep water on the edge of the Continental slope.

The fishing season is from April to October, with shore angling continuing into December.

This area of the coastline is the only place in Europe where porbeagle shark have been caught from the shore. Such encounters with fish to over 100 lbs are always a possibility from May to October.
