Welcome to Slyne Head To Rossaveal Sea Angling

Generally the inshore waters and bays are shallow and low in salinity due to the large numbers of rivers and streams entering the sea here. The coastline is very indented and rugged and the shoreline is heavily covered with bladderwrack. Due to these factors, the fish population is restricted to those species with a tolerance for the conditions. The deeper, offshore waters offer good opportunities for reef and clean ground fishing, while shark angling in the summer is very productive for fish to over 100 lbs.

Sea angling is totally under-developed in this area and has only emerged as a serious attraction in the last number of years. Due to the lack of angling pressure, there is no history of specimen or record fish.

Shore fishing is increasing in popularity and the local angling club at Carna organises several shore events in the season. Generally, fishing is best from May to September.
