If youre planning a trip to Irelands capital, then youll want a Dublin hotel in the thick of the action. Dublin hotels come aplenty in the St Stephens Green/Grafton Street/Baggot Street area, just south of the River Liffey, and its a great base to immerse yourself in the vibrant buzz that is Dublin city centre.
St Stephens Green is a 22 acre inner city public park right in the heart of Dublin. If you want some privacy and wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre, youve got it here. Youre surrounded by trees, flowerbeds, a lake and a fountain and its the perfect spot for a picnic. And if youre in Dublin during the summertime you might catch one of the free daytime concerts.
St Stephens Green joins the top of Grafton Street, Dublins most fashionable and pedestrianised shopping street. Named after the Duke of Grafton it stretches from College Green (part of Trinity College) to St Stephens Green. Right on the corner youll find the St. Stephens Green Shopping Centre. You can start youre spending spree here and everything youre looking for in the fashion world, as well as cafes and restaurants, is located under one amazing glass roof.
If you continue down along Grafton Street youll find exclusive jewellers, high street stores and designer boutiques. Its also where youll see the statue of Molly Malone shes still wheeling her wheelbarrow. You could stop for a quick cuppa in Bewleys Café, which has kind of become a landmark on Grafton Street its Dublins oldest café and its still going strong.
Grafton Street is also Dublins big busking street and its where a number of famous faces started out. The atmosphere is always fantastic here. Its also home to some of Dublins liveliest nocturnal hotspots. So you cant go wrong with a Dublin hotel here.
An excellent choice is the 5 star Westbury Hotel, just off Grafton Street, while the deluxe OCallaghan Stephens Green Hotel is located on St. Stephens Green. Youll find the 3 star Longfields Hotel on Fitzwilliam Street Lower and the 4 star Brooks Hotel on Drury Street.
Other Dublin hotels in the St Stephens Green/Grafton Street area include the Mercer Hotel, located just off St. Stephens Green and the 3 star Grafton Capital Hotel on Stephens Street Lower, while another good Dublin hotel to rest your head for the night is the Central Hotel on Exchecquer Street.
You can also choose a Dublin hotel on Baggot Street which is an established business district as well as being lined with gourmet restaurants and fashionable bars. St. Stephens Green leads onto Lower Baggot Street, then Upper Baggot Street and onto Pembroke Road in Ballsbridge.
As its quite a long street Baggot Street is divided in two (Lower & Upper) by the Grand Canal. Just take a look around you when walking along this street youll notice the difference in architecture. Lower Baggot Street has mainly Georgian Buildings while Upper Baggot Street is influenced by Victorian architecture. A really good 3 star Dublin hotel near Baggot Street is the Mespil Hotel on Mespil Road.
