The Shockwaves NME Tour is coming to Dublin!

About the gig...

The Shockwaves NME Tour 2008 is a tour normally held in the run up to the Shockwaves NME Awards 2008. The tour usually consists of indie rock bands supported by newer bands so it's a great launching pad for up and coming bands. It worked wonders for the Arctic Monkeys who were a support act in 2006. Though last year the tour was split into the NME Indie Rock Tour and the NME Indie Rave Tour, they have returned to the original all-in-one format for 2008.

The headline act for 2008 is 'The Cribs', a 3-piece indie band who supported the Sex Pistols in their comeback concerts last year. The band who consist of three brothers are from West Yorkshire in England have just released their 3rd album called ‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’. The Cribs also have one of their biggest hits, ‘Hey Scenesters’, included in the NME's "50 Greatest Indie Anthems Of All Time".

Supporting the Cribs will be  new, up-and-coming bands ‘Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong’, ‘Does It Offend You, Yeah?’ and ‘The Ting Tings’.

Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong are in indie rock band who have just released their debut album, ‘Lucio Starts Fires’, in October. They have also been signed up as a support act for other big names such as the Babyshambles, Kaiser Chiefs and Dizzy Rascal.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? are an electro dance punk group who have remixed songs for Muse, The Raconteurs and Bloc Party. For their live performance be prepared for some stage diving and broken instruments!

The Ting Tings are an indie pop duo consisting of Jules De Martino on drums and Katie White on guitar, and both sing. They have performed at Glastonbury and in October they have released a new single, ‘Fruit Machine’.

The NME Tour will rock the Ambassador Theatre on Wednesday 30th of January at 8pm and tickets are priced around €25.

About the venue...

The Ambassador Theatre is located at the top of O'Connell Street (opposite end to River Liffey) in the very heart of Dublin city centre and is attached to the Rotunda Hospital Complex and the Gate Theatre on Parnell Street.

If you are driving, you'll be able to find parking in the Rotunda Hospital car park, though you'll have to use the western entrance which you can find by heading west at the top of O’Connell Street along Parnell Street and then turning north along Parnell Square West. You'll find the car park entrance less than a hundred metres on this street. (There is a fee for the car park but all proceeds go to the hospital).
