Dublin Zoo

For a fun-filled family day in Dublin, why not pop out to Dublin Zoo at the Phoenix Park? Located north of the city centre, Dublin Zoo has been drawing visitors for decades - find out about the top attractions at the zoo, opening times, how to get there and much more!

If you're wondering what to do with the kids in Dublin the zoo is always a great day out! You'll actually see their faces light up as they pass enclosures of elephants, giraffes, gorillas, lions and zebras. The city farm and the children’s corner are always a big hit - here the kids get to touch farm animals. The "big cats" are also of huge interest and for those brave enough there's the Reptile House.

Not only is it a great place to view so many different species of animals, but the keen horticulturalist will no doubt be in heaven with the many different species of plant and plant life. In various enclosures you'll see the fiery beauty of Red Robin, bright yellow Silver Wattle, evergreen Honey Spurge, exotic South African Honey Bush and many varieties of grasses.

It's quite a trek around Dublin Zoo and no doubt a healthy appetite will be worked up. The Meerkat Restaurant is a must, with cheeky meerkats keeping an eye on your every move. Throughout the grounds there are also many cafés and kiosks for a quick bite!

How to get to Dublin Zoo

There's an excellent bus service from the city centre. The 10, 10A (from O'Connell Street), 25, 25A, 26, 66, 66A, 66B, 67, 67A, 68, 69 all travel from the city centre. Also this year sees the addition of a new Phoenix Park Shuttle. This bus service starts at Park Gate Street (beside Heuston Station and the Luas line).

You can take the Dart feeder bus 90 from Tara Street DART Station and Connolly Station. Another option is the Luas Red Line – the nearest stop to the Phoenix Park is Heuston Station.

Dublin Zoo is open all year round with the exception of Christmas Day and St.Stephen's Day. The zoo closes earlier in the winter months, with the African Plains enclosure always closing a half hour earlier, no matter what time of the year.

There's a variety of different ticketing options including Annual Zoo Membership. Check out the Dublin Zoo website for more information.
